Tall
Timbers: Through its conservation programs, Tall Timbers
strives to protect traditional land uses and rural lifestyles as well
as wildlife populations and forest productivity. The Red Hills is model
working landscape where consumptive use and sustainable management go
hand in hand. This model is and can be replicated on both public and private
lands in other regions. Tall Timbers’ challenge is to successfully package
and disseminate the information on how and why it works, and to base this
information on sound scientific research whenever possible.
Red
Hills Conservation Program:
At Tall Timbers, the success of the Red Hills Conservation
Program (RHCP) is tangible. Now in its tenth year, the RHCP and Consortium
partners have protected nearly 62,500 acres through conservation easements.
These undeveloped lands from Tallahassee to Thomasville replenish the
Floridan Aquifer – the drinking water supply for residents in Florida,
Georgia and Alabama.
